Ast. Technology Chair
Purpose
The Assistant Technology Chair serves for two purposes, first of which is to support the Technology Chair in one of UW-Madison’s largest and oldest student organizations on campus. In addition, this position was created to learn the necessary technical skills and leadership to make an extremely strong candidate for the Hoofer Council Technology Chair. Through this position, the Assistant Technology Chair will learn how to effectively communicate with each of the six Hoofer Clubs and meet their unique technology needs.
Assistant Technology Chair Duties
- Mandatory attendance at one Hoofer Council meeting per month and all Hoofer Council Retreats
- Attendance at one Hoofer Council meeting per month.
- Work under and with the Technology Chair as needed to accomplish the following:
- Continue development and help maintain the Hoofer event/member management system that helps the organization keep track of members, contact information, activities and lessons, instructors and a variety of all information.
- Help with development and maintenance to continue deployment to various clubs and add useful features
- Work with club leaders to meet each club’s needs for the system
- Provide support for the system as needed to club leaders and members
- Write documentation of coding for the system
- Work with appropriate DoIT and/or Wisconsin Union technology staff as necessary.
- Assist with other projects as needed, to be determined by the Technology Chair

Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to take initiative, seek guidance, work independently, complete projects, and ask questions as needed.
- Technical
- Strong programming and database skills including PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Willingness to effectively document work and code so that the project(s) can be taken over by others once term is complete
- Operation and knowledge of version control systems, Git knowledge it helpful but not required
- Knowledge of Linux server administration, especially on a Cpanel / CentOS hosted system is helpful but not required
- Other
- Ability to work well with students, staff, faculty and Union members of varying backgrounds, interests and abilities in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and computer operation skills.
- Critical thinking and decision making skills, as well as an ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Creative skills in using resources of organization, the Wisconsin Union, UW-Madison, and the greater-Madison community
- Willingness to adjust personal schedule to the needs of programming and support, understanding the need to observe, participate in and support programs. Irregular hours including evening and weekend hours are to be expected as needed.
Accountability
- All Hoofer Council members abide by Wisconsin Union policies and the Hoofer Council Constitution.
- The Hoofer Council Ast. Technology Chair reports to Hoofer Council Technology Chair and is accountable Hoofer Council, and Hoofer Council President.
Schedule / Time Commitment
The chair can work on whatever schedule is most convenient for him/her, providing goals are met within set deadlines and within estimated hour amounts. This means that most work could be done on weekends, during academic breaks, late nights or other suitable times.
